Working with the industry
We are part of an industry-wide programme to encourage the responsible use of alcohol.
In October 2012 we were one of 12 leading global producers of beer, wine, and spirits to launch new commitments to reduce harmful drinking.
The Global Beer, Wine and Spirits Producers' Commitments provide a co-ordinated industry response to support the implementation of the WHO's global strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol and the UN SDG target of reducing alcohol-related harm by 10% by 2030.
These commitments are being implemented over five years – starting from 2013 – and cover the following five areas:
- Reducing underage drinking
- Strengthening and expanding marketing codes of practice
- Providing consumer information and responsible product innovation
- Reducing drinking and driving
- Enlisting the support of retailers to reduce harmful drinking.
Performance is tracked annually against key performance indicators developed by Accenture Sustainability Services and assured by KPMG Sustainability.
We laid strong foundations, set benchmarks, established key performance indicators and built the tools we need to accelerate our efforts.
The industry has shown progress in key areas, including underage drinking, reducing drink driving and strengthening and expanding marketing codes of practice to promote responsible drinking.
The 2015 report showed that further momentum had been achieved in key areas of the Commitments, particularly in preventing underage drinking and enlisting the support of retailers to reduce harmful drinking.
The latest report showed that the signatory companies have stepped up implementation of their Commitments, expanding and deepening programmes by forming innovative partnerships with a wide range of organisations across the globe.
